Grad life

So this Fall I started my first year of graduate school. So far so good? Not really. It has only been the first 3 months of the program, and I feel just crap about everything. What have I gotten myself into again? I know that all of the things I have learned so far has had nothing to do with my undergraduate coursework. Talk about readjustments, this is just completely just too much. I wish I could skip to next july and take neuroscience and be done with coursework and continue to start my laboratory work. Frustrating thing is that common sense for others is not common sense for me....and so ya bitch rant is over.

Rowboat

I just watched Alfonso Cuaron's futuristic movie Children of Men last night. I had been wanting to watch this film for a long time based on simply, its plot and premise, unique camera techniques.

I have to say, I was neither over or underwhelmed. It fit right into what I expected, which is a good thing. I love its originality, unique style of film making, and its emotional intensity. Clive Owen was perfectly cast as the reluctant hero, the last person expected to protect and ensure the safety of Kee who represented the lingering hope for the continuance of the human race. I admired Theo's intelligence and persistence, he probably felt more emotion and determination than he had for the past twenty years.

Performances from the supporting cast were all strong as well. Julianne Moore did not have a lot of screen time, but her unwavering poise as an activist conveyed character strength, yet the audience still can perceive her vulnerability and hurt, due to her and Theo's tragic past.

This film is unique to its long take technique, effective to elicit a "real time", documentary timeline for the movie. I believe Cuaron's purpose was not to produce a thriller, action, or futuristic film. He wanted to address difficult questions, and directly explored a defaulted political climate, and anthropological environment.

Highly recommended. Watch this film if you want to have a great discussion with your fellow audience, or simply introspectively reflect as an individual viewer.

Refrigerator

Julie and Julia is a wonderful film. Watching it makes my metabolism go faster....making me hungry after pigging out at Hometown Buffet

I still have to sign up for eClub for my Dad who is in love with that place. I can't believe how much he indulges himself in their BBQ bake beans. One spoonful equates to the amount of your daily sodium intake level.

I really want to go see It's Complicated..it just looks so entertaining. I like films which contains originality. I have read some reviews stating how it is inferior than something's gotta give, because it lacked the social subtly. Perhaps there was some expectation on this film to be as good, or better than Meyer's former project, but I doubt that it is not enjoyable. Maybe it is built to be an escapist film. At this stage in filmmaking, I am just glad that this plot was original.

I did not intend to have this entry as lengthy. My original intention was just to keep it one or two sentences at most. However, what is so interesting in keeping it so cryptic?

Borderline

I am almost done with graduate school applications. Being admitted is another story. If I do not get into anywhere, I am going to move onto better things than staying at home.

I can't handle these things for another year. It will drive me insane, or I become like someone I am too familiar with in my life.
